Are You Overpaying On Property Taxes?

TAYLOR LAMBERT October 20, 2025

Some homeowners in Santa Clara County would be surprised to learn they may be paying more in property taxes than they need to. If you bought your home at peak price times over the last few years (spring 2022 and 2024), you might be able to lower your property taxes. "Might", I said!

Property tax assessments are based on the value of your home as determined by the county, and they typically go up.  So if you bought in May 2024 when prices were at their highest, there's a chance your property tax assessment is higher than the current market value. Especially since home prices and values have taken a hit this year in some areas.  And if that's the case, there's a process to appeal and potentially lower your property taxes.

The process is straightforward, but there are deadlines and specific forms that need to be filed. Not every appeal is successful, but even a small adjustment can save you hundreds of dollars a year.

If you would like, I can send you a link to get more info and start a property tax appeal. It's worth taking a few minutes to check because a handful of homeowners are leaving money on the table without even realizing it.  It's few and far between, but something to spend 30 seconds on to think about.

Have a fantastic week!
