These programs provide bilingual education, often in Spanish or Mandarin, and are open to both English speakers and those fluent in other languages at home. The best part? Some DI schools allow students to attend even if they live outside the district—an excellent option for families priced out of certain neighborhoods.

In the early grades, most instruction happens in the non-English language, gradually balancing with English as students progress. While these programs offer incredible language and cultural benefits, they do require an application, and spots can be limited, so planning ahead is essential.

School districts like Santa Clara Unified, Berryessa Union, Fremont Unified, Palo Alto Unified, and Morgan Hill Unified all offer DI programs, with a mix of Spanish and Mandarin options depending on the district.
