Holy Moly That's A Lot of Housing! San Jose, Los Gatos, Santa Clara

TAYLOR LAMBERT May 14, 2025

The word this week? Hundreds of homes will be coming to North San Jose. In the coming months, Indusys Technology Inc., located about two miles East of Levi's Stadium, on 210 Baypointe Parkway is to be demolished and is expected to add 292 apartments and 42 townhomes. Out of the 300+ homes,15 apartments will be affordable, or priced below 50% of the area median. The project will not contain any retail space but will have easy access to the VTA light rail station nearby.

This project wasn't the only one that made news this week. Similar housing projects also came to the forefront in Los Gatos and Santa Clara. The Los Gatos Planning Commission recommended a 55-townhome development located on 15349-15367 Los Gatos Blvd (on the East side of Highway 17, across the street from Trader Joe's). The Santa Clara City Council gave its final approval to develop a 1,792-apartment community at 2518 Mission College Blvd (South of Great America and North of Pedro's and Birks restaurants). These projects and more like it won't be stopping anytime soon, as per State mandate, the Bay Area must plan for 441,176 new units between 2023 and 2031.  Daaaaaanng, that's a heaping pile of housing!

While expansion for housing is much needed, I'll be sad to see some of the Bay Area development over the next decade or so. High-rise real estate is awesome, of course. That's how you get cool stuff! Put a bunch of people in one place and then naturally cool stuff develops in the area becauuuuuse, there are people there! Genius. But neighborhoods with luscious green streets and white picket fences will become rarer. But that's life in the Big City, baby!  As my wife says to my daughter when the little one asks why she can't have another bowl of ice cream before she goes to bed... "That's showbiz, kid!"
