Two of the most beloved schools in the Berryessa Union School District (BUSD), Ruskin Elementary and Sierramont Middle School, are currently on the chopping block, which sucks! Budget cuts and low enrollment were the proposed argument for potential closure. Nothing has been officially decided; however, it's anticipated that while closure might be avoided, consolidation could still likely be the outcome. This will call for the remapping of the neighborhood's schools.
Nearby homeowners certainly did not react positively to this event as most new homeowners sometimes seek a specific neighborhood solely due to a school's reputation and performance for their children's academic future. Meanwhile, established homeowners who don't use the schools still wouldn't want to see a cut which could result in a value decrease of their home. We all know better commutes, better schools, better anything in the Bay Area translates to premium sales prices!

Berryessa schools are pretty dang good overall so most likely the consolidation or closures won't result in kiddos transitioning from a fantastic school to a terrible one. But as a parent, I know that consistency is vital for your child to thrive, so even if you're being moved from a good school to another good one, the switching schools part alone can throw off a child. Leaving friends, teachers, and an environment you're comfortable in and transitioning to a different situation and place is going to be tough on these kids and parents.
