I wanted to share something I'm seeing more and more in my industry. Rental scams!! This past week I saw a would-be-renter get scammed for $1500 and I don't want it to happen to you!
Rental scams are becoming more sophisticated and targeting vulnerable individuals in our community. I've seen many situations online where scammers pose as landlords, request security deposits before viewings, or advertise rentals at suspiciously low prices. Basically, if you're looking for a rental in this market, live by the motto "If it's too good to be true, it ain't true!"
If you're searching for a rental, make sure to verify listings by visiting properties in person and confirming their availability. Be cautious of anyone requesting upfront payments or asking for sensitive information like your Social Security number. Especially if they are asking for this stuff before you see the property in person.
If you're suspicious of a home for rent, just email me and I can let you know who owns the property so you know you are talking to the right people. Homeownership is public record, very easy for me to type in an address with the county and get you the info you need.
Housing searches can be stressful, and these scams only make things harder. If you or someone you know has questions or needs advice, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m here to help!
