Just within one week, at least four wildfires broke out around the Bay Area, Antioch, North & East San Jose, and Mount Diablo. Yeeeeesh! With strong winds and dry weather, PG&E is expected to shut off power in various cities to reduce fire risks throughout the summer.
If you missed my "get ready for summer" update a couple of weeks ago, here’s a quick refresher on important home maintenance tips to help keep you and your home safe and cool this summer.
AC Unit: Your air conditioner will be working overtime this summer. If you haven’t had a technician check it recently, now’s a great time. They can inspect for leaks, adjust airflow, and replace filters to keep it running efficiently and avoid surprises.
Gutters & Downspouts: We usually clean gutters in the rainy season, but summer prep is just as important. Leaves and debris caught in gutters can fuel wildfires. Clean them out and maintain defensible space around your home to help slow or stop fires from spreading.
Weatherstrip Windows: Drafty windows and doors let warm or cool air escape, hiking up your energy bills. Weather-stripping, caulk, or expanding foam are inexpensive, easy DIY fixes that make a big difference.
