New Housing Developments Update

TAYLOR LAMBERT March 24, 2025

Some housing development developments have been developing! Let's catch you up on a couple!

In Los Gatos, one of the town’s last remaining orchards on Oka Road may soon be replaced with a 138-townhome development. We had a listing in that area a couple of years ago and I passed by this orchard all the time thinking "How are they not developing that into housing!" I guess they are now!  The project, which includes 28 affordable homes, would remove about 374 walnut trees from the nearly 7-acre site. It’s part of a wave of new housing developments sparked by state mandates, and while it aims to address the housing shortage, it’s also raising concerns about traffic and the loss of historical agricultural land.  This area is in North LG so hopefully, it doesn't jam up the area too badly but you are talking about possibly 170-ish new cars in the area and nearly 300 people. Downtown LG is already so packed but business owners have to like the influx of residents.

Meanwhile, in Campbell, a long-planned mixed-use development near East Campbell Avenue is finally moving forward. Originally proposed in 2016, the project has been redesigned to include up to 108 homes, aiming to enhance the downtown corridor. The lot is located right between downtown Campbell and the Pruneyard, which would be a pretty awesome location.  It'll be cool to see those ones when they are finished.

Both projects highlight the ongoing balance between growth and preserving community character. What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear how you feel about these changes!
