Bay Area home prices are still pricey. Newsflash! A new report from PropertyShark has the latest rankings of the most expensive ZIP codes in the USA, and while Florida stole the top spot this year, the Bay Area is still flexing serious luxury muscle.
After eight straight years at the top, Atherton has officially dropped to the second most expensive ZIP code in the US. Atherton’s median sale price now sits at $8.33 million, just behind Miami Beach’s Fisher Island, which claimed the crown at $9.5 million. But California still dominates the luxury map, making up 61% of the country’s top 100 ZIP codes. Even with fewer entries than in past years, the Bay Area remains the nation’s most exclusive metro region, with 32 ZIP codes ranked among the priciest in the country. Stats, babyyyyyy!
San Jose led the Bay Area with three ZIP codes on the list, including 95129 with a $2.59 million median sale price. Atherton, Los Altos, and Stinson Beach were the only neighborhoods in the Bay Area with median prices above $5 million. Interestingly, San Francisco, which once had 13 top ZIP codes back in 2019, now has just one. The SF housing market, the past few months has been HOT, though, so let's keep an eye on those numbers when they come out end of next year. Meanwhile, Newport Beach tops the U.S. overall, with six ZIP codes in the top 100.
What does this mean locally? Atherton, Hillsborough, Woodside, Los Altos, and Palo Alto continue to be magnets for tech executives, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth buyers looking for privacy, prestige, and proximity to the heart of Silicon Valley. Think yacht-wars-type folks. For sellers, this is encouraging! Demand for high-end homes remains strong, and properties in these elite neighborhoods continue to set market standards. For buyers, competition is real, but understanding the patterns in each enclave can reveal opportunities.
